Elite Clinic provides prenatal care during your pregnancy. You and your partner will receive care and monitoring from an obstetrician throughout your pregnancy. An obstetrician is a doctor who has specialised in the management and care of pregnant women during labour and birth. All our obstetrician-gynaecologists (OB/GYN) are very experienced, having working years in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology.
Women having high-risk pregnancy are also being monitored.
All the physicians speak both Russian and Estonian, most of the doctors speak English as well.
At your every prenatal visit it is possible to perform all the necessary prenatal tests and investigations, inc. ultrasonography.
A woman has to be registered as a pregnant at her OB/GYN doctor’s before the 12th week of pregnancy.
The earliest way to confirm pregnancy is a hormonal test from a woman’s blood (HCG). If you wish to come to an appointment already before the 12th week of pregnancy to confirm the pregnancy, it is also possible to diagnose pregnancy in uterus in the beginning of 6th week (5+). During the 6th-7th weeks your OB/GYN could detect the heart beat of a fetus and exclude ectopic pregnancy and early miscarriage. Early ultrasound (during 6th-7th weeks) is also important to diagnose fetal malformations.
During your pregnancy there will be series of regular check-ups. You will have the following prenatal examinations at your initial visit – blood tests, vaginal tests, urine sample. You could have your blood tests and bring urine samples to Elite Clinic’s general laboratory from Monday to Friday from 8.00 to 18.00 (and in our branch clinics Tähe, Gyne Tartu, Gyne Jõhvi as well) without a previous registration during your OB/GYN’s visit. As said before also in our other clinics you can have your blood tests during the doctor’s appointment, urine samples can be brought in within any open hours of the clinics.
According to the needs and the stage of pregnancy your OB/GYN performs necessary tests, will check your blood pressure, weight, the position of your baby and measures your abdomen. Starting from the 34th week also the heartbeat of the fetus is listened.
During 11th-14th week your OB/GYN or an ultrasonography specialist performs an ultrasound screening of the first trimester, a nuchal scan (NT) is a sonographic prenatal screening scan (ultrasound) to help identify higher chances for chromosomal conditions including Down syndrome in a fetus. It measures the fluid under the skin at the back of the baby’s neck to determine the risk of Down’s syndrome.
Clinic Elite also offers the opportunity to take the OSCAR test and OSCAR screening with the pre-eclampsia screening (11-14 weeks of pregnancy) to detect the complications during pregnancy.
From the 9th week it is possible to perform the Panorama test.
Double test (at around 11-13 weeks of pregnancy) and Triple test (at around 15-16 weeks of pregnancy) are screening tests that measure the level of hormones in the blood and provide an estimation of risk for chromosomal abnormalities such as Down syndrome and Trisomy 18 and ventral wall defects (abdominal wall defect). Abnormal test results have been associated with premature delivery, low birth weight babies, abnormal placental findings and miscarriage. 65% of Down syndrome cases and 85% of neural tube defects are detected by these tests.
If a woman prefers so it is possible to perform additional ultrasonography for extra charge, for example it is possible to check the baby’s sex on the 15th week of pregnancy.
Somewhere between the 19th and 21st week your OB/GYN or ultrasonography specialist performs an ultrasound screening called an anomaly or a mid-pregnancy ultrasound scan that takes a close look at your baby and your uterus. The sonographer will check that your baby is developing normally, also will look at where the placenta is lying in your uterus. The sonographer will examine all your baby’s organs and take measurements. You can take your family member along to share the experience with you.
Although the 3D/4D ultrasound can be done during your whole pregnancy the best time for it is from the 23rd to 27th week.
In addition to the mentioned tests and examinations it is possible to measure your blood sugar level and you may be offered a test to find out if you have a gestational diabetes. The test for gestational diabetes is called the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT, in Estonia called GTT). It’s offered between 24 weeks and 28 weeks of pregnancy.
Amniocentesis (also referred to as amniotic fluid test or AFT) can also be done in Elite Clinic. It is a medical procedure used in prenatal diagnosis of chromosomal abnormalities and fetal infections.
If necessary the patient is able to consult different specialists from different specialities, visit a dermatologist, endocrinologist or any other specialist in already familiar and secure environment. There is also a pharmacy (apotheka) in Elite Clinic.
All pregnant women both those who are registered in our clinics and getting prenatal care during their pregnancy and also those who are visiting some other clinics are welcome with their partners to participate in lectures for future mothers and fathers, lectures are being held in Clinic Elite.
